Salt Storage is the lynchpin of the green hydrogen economy. Why? Because green hydrogen production will be variable, but customers require a constant supply. Salt storage is the only way to store hundreds of millions of kilograms of hydrogen - equivalent to terawatt hours of energy - safely and efficiently for long durations. The technology for hydrogen salt storage isn’t new - it's been used in the oil and gas industry for decades.
What is new is using it in locations where renewable energy potential is high and near markets for green fuels. Salt storage can be thought of as a key that unlocks a region's renewable energy potential and allows it to be harnessed for others around the world in the form of green fuel. It is the keystone of every GHI project around the world.
